I like VMware. I run Linux on my home machine and VMware makes it pretty painless to run a Windows XP VM (not to mention other flavours of Windows and Linux) so I can test sites on different browsers and run MS Word when Open Office is not sufficient.
Each time I start VMware workstation a tip-of-the-day dialog appears. I rarely pay it a lot of attention but haven’t turned it of because I figure that one day it might tell me something useful. However, that day is not today.
Take a look at this:

Yes, that’s right if I want to run an application using VMware player (not sure why I’d need to when I have workstation installed but never mind) then I need to .... wait for it .... run VMware player. I do have my off days but somehow I reckon I could have worked that one out for myself. :-)

Hi Richard
I'm currently running Fedora Core 9. I may get around to upgrading to FC11 sometime but it's not high of my list of things to do.

OK, thanks Dave!
I never really thought about running a Windows VM in a Linux environment before - I do it the other way around as most of the applications I use are Windows specific, but I still like to play with Linux, and find it a useful secure place to do online transactions.
Might make the leap the other way some day!
Good luck with your OU course BTW, I came across your site via Twitter. I'm currently (supposed to be) revising for an exam next month. Unfortunately, it appears I'm suffering from the Homer Simpson syndrome where my head is already full and the new information pushes out the old. :(

Richard, at work I have the same setup as you - I run Windows XP on a laptop and run Linux in a VM. At home I have more freedom though and my Linux box also doubles as a file, web & database server for my home network.
Good luck with your exam next month.

BTW VMWare doesn't officially support Fedora but it seems to work well enough and I think there are a fair number of people using VMWare on Fedora.
